Critical Code Studies Working Groups

Every two years, we convene an online gathering of scholars and professionals, artists and amateur makers, interested in exploring culture through code. To date, we have convened 6, holding the first one in 2010. Although the first several were closed to participants only, starting in 2018, the Working Groups have been visible to the public.

The Critical Code Studies Working Groups are made up of weekly plenary threads built on themes and code critiques, centering on code snippets posted by participants. Past themes have included everything from indigenous programming and feminist AI.

We invite you to read through the past threads and consider joining us for our next one.
